artist statement — 2024

my goal in this life is to deeply enjoy the human experience and seek to understand the interconnectedness of existence. my soul’s dream is simply to create moments of art, beauty, and joy that remind others of the crazy wonder of our universe and our humanity — i like to call it ‘plotting goodness’.

the thing about goodness, is a lot of times it grows from adversity, which makes alchemy somewhat of a requirement here. when painting & creating i often think about what i need to feel in that moment, and the result ends up becoming something so deeply personal that it feels universal. is it a mirror or a painting or both?

going to therapy with acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, spray paint and ink, i come to the canvas in need of release and free of preconceptions, feeling very much like a beginner until i reach some moment, in fact many fleeting moments, of clarity.

the eye moves over rich pigment that is smeared, splashed, and scraped in tumultuous waves of consciousness. there are many little individual moments of wonder all over, if you just look around.

i can’t help but find the composition of chaos + intention a fascinating one. living in a world of so many truths and ups and downs, i’m pulled to find a sense of balance: something compulsive paired with something careful. something lighthearted with something heavy. something messy paired with something precise. this varied and layered experience, it’s who we are.

this is simply a digital commemoration of passing moments that have been vv good to me.

what’s vv good for you?
